Warning signs alert you to hazards or changing conditions ahead on Cyprus roads, such as bends, junctions, pedestrian crossings and slippery surfaces, giving you time to slow down and react safely. They are typically triangular with a red border and a black symbol on a white or yellow background.
Study tip: Focus on the symbol inside the triangle: it tells you exactly what hazard to expect. On the theory test you are often asked to identify the hazard from the symbol alone.
Available width of headroom indicated
Warns of a restricted headroom ahead, under a bridge or other structure, with the available height shown on the sign. Check your vehicle and its load against that figure before you continue.
Bend to left
Warning of a dangerous bend ahead. Reduce speed.
Bend to right
The road ahead bends to the right. Slow down before you reach the bend and never overtake at a corner.
Compulsory directions because of traffic island or obstacle
There is a traffic island or an obstruction in the road ahead. Pass it on the side the arrow points to.
Compulsory direction to the left (chevron board)
A chevron board marking a point where the road changes direction sharply, often at temporary works. Slow right down and follow the chevrons.
Countdown markers to a level crossing (each line = 1/3 of distance)
Countdown markers warning that a level crossing is coming up. Each bar stands for one third of the distance between the first warning sign and the crossing itself.
Crossover at contraflow in 200m
In 200 metres traffic crosses over into a contraflow lane on the other carriageway. Reduce speed, stay in your marked lane and expect oncoming traffic close alongside.

The left lane ends and must merge with the next one in 600 metres. Move over in good time rather than racing to the end of the lane.
Level crossing with barrier or gate ahead
