Mandatory signs tell you what you must do on Cyprus roads: the direction you must travel, a minimum speed, or a lane you must use. Ignoring them is a traffic offence.
Study tip: Mandatory signs are typically circular with a blue background and a white symbol. Remember: a blue circle means you must; a red circle means you must not.
Ahead or left only
At the junction ahead you may only go straight on or turn left. Any other movement is prohibited.
Ahead or right only
You must go straight or turn right ahead.
End of Minimum Speed Limit
Marks the end of the minimum speed limit. You may return to a normal speed for the road, up to the maximum limit that applies.
Go Straight Ahead Only
You must go straight ahead here. Turning left or right at this point is prohibited.
Keep Left
Keep to the left side of the road.
Keep right
You must pass to the right of the sign, normally because of an island or an obstruction in the road.
Mandatory Snow Chains
The road ahead may only be used by vehicles with snow chains fitted. Fit them before you continue or take another route.
Minimum Speed Limit
You must travel at or above the speed shown, unless traffic or conditions make it unsafe to do so.
Mini-roundabout (roundabout circulation — give way to vehicles from the immediate right)
Traffic must circulate around the roundabout in the direction shown. Give way to vehicles coming from your immediate right before you join.
Pedestrians Only
Route to be used by pedestrians only.
Route to be used by horse riders only
The route ahead is reserved for horse riders. Other traffic must not use it.
Turn left
You must turn left at this point. This is an instruction at the sign itself, not a warning about a turn further ahead.
Turn Left Ahead
You must turn left at the junction ahead. Get into position and signal in good time.
Turn Left or Right Ahead
At the junction ahead you must turn either left or right. Going straight on is not permitted.
Turn Right
You must turn right at this point. This is an instruction at the sign itself, not a warning about a turn further ahead.
Turn right ahead
You must turn right at the junction ahead. Get into position and signal in good time.
Vehicles may pass either side to reach same destination
You may pass the island or obstruction on either side, because both ways lead to the same destination.
