Information signs give you helpful guidance about routes, services and facilities across Cyprus, such as parking, hospitals, one-way streets and destinations. They do not impose rules; they help you navigate and plan ahead.
Study tip: These are usually rectangular. Learn to tell them apart from mandatory signs (circular, giving orders) so you never confuse guidance with a legal requirement.
A GREEN ARROW means you may go in the direction shown
A green filter arrow lets you go in the direction it points, even while the main light is still red. Give way to anyone already crossing.
Airport
Directs traffic to an airport.
AMBER means 'Stop' at the stop line
A steady amber light means stop at the stop line. Carry on only if you are so close that pulling up would cause an accident.

Marks the start of a built-up area, where the lower urban speed limit applies unless a different limit is signed.
Bus lane ahead (ΜΟΝΟ ΛΕΩΦΟΡΕΙΑ)
A bus lane starts ahead and is reserved for buses during the hours shown on the sign.
Bus lane left (white board)
A white board showing a bus lane on the left. Do not drive or park in it while it is in operation.
Bus lane on left
Shows a bus lane running along the left of the carriageway. Keep out of it during its hours of operation.
Bus lane on left (variant)
A variant of the sign for a bus lane on the left. The lane is reserved for buses during the hours shown.
Bus lane right (white board)
A white board showing a bus lane on the right. Do not drive or park in it while it is in operation.
Bus stop (city routes)
Marks a stop used by city bus routes. Do not park or wait within the marked area.
Cafeteria
Directs traffic to a cafeteria.
Camping & caravan site
Directs traffic to a site that takes both tents and caravans.
Camping site
Directs traffic to a camping site.
Caravan site
Directs traffic to a caravan site.
Class 4 plates / Radioactive (7) / Fissile
Hazard plates displayed by vehicles carrying dangerous goods of these classes. They let the emergency services identify the load without opening the vehicle.
Corrosive substance (8) / Toxic substance (6)
Hazard plates for corrosive and toxic loads. Keep well back from a vehicle showing them and never approach one involved in an incident.

Disabled parking
Parking reserved for vehicles displaying a disabled badge.

The parking spaces here may only be used by vehicles displaying a disabled badge.
Emergency Phone
Points to an emergency telephone.

Marks the end of the restrictions that applied to the left lane.
End of high speed road
Marks the end of the high-speed road. Lower limits, ordinary junctions and slower traffic apply from here.
Except disabled parking only
A plate that qualifies a parking restriction: it does not apply to vehicles displaying a disabled badge.
Flammable liquid (3) plates
Hazard plates displayed by vehicles carrying flammable liquids. Keep well back and never smoke near a vehicle showing them.
Flammable / non-flammable gas / toxic (class 2) plates
Hazard plates displayed by vehicles carrying gases, whether flammable, non-flammable or toxic.
FLASHING AMBER means proceed if your exit is clear
A flashing amber light means you may go on if the crossing ahead is clear. Give way to anyone still on it.
GREEN means you may go if the way is clear
A green light means you may go if the way is clear. Do not enter the junction unless you can get right across it.
Hazard warning plates (explosives 1 / 1.4 / 1.5 / 1.6)
Hazard plates displayed by vehicles carrying explosives. Keep well back and report any incident involving one immediately.
Helipad
Marks a helipad, a landing site used by helicopters. Expect low aircraft and sudden noise nearby.
High speed road
Marks the start of a high-speed road. Higher limits apply, and pedestrians, animals and slow vehicles are not allowed on it.
Hiking starting point
Marks the starting point of a hiking trail.
Hospital or first aid
Directs traffic to a hospital or a first-aid post.
Hotel
Directs traffic to a hotel.
Left lane with above restrictions of use
An overhead board showing that the restrictions displayed above it apply to the left lane.
Middle lane turning right with above restriction of use
An overhead board showing that the restrictions above apply to the middle lane, which turns right.

Miscellaneous (9) / Toxic (6) plates
Hazard plates for miscellaneous dangerous goods and toxic loads. They warn the emergency services what a vehicle is carrying.
No through road for vehicles
The road straight ahead is a dead end. There is no through route for vehicles, so you will have to come back the same way.
No through road for vehicles on left turn
The road to the left is a dead end. There is no through route for vehicles that way.
No through road for vehicles on right turn
The road to the right is a dead end. There is no through route for vehicles that way.
One-way traffic (horizontal)
Traffic flows in one direction only - arrow sign.
One-way traffic (vertical)
Traffic on this street runs in one direction only, shown by the arrow. Never drive against the flow, even to reverse out.
Oxidizing substance (5.1)
A hazard plate displayed by vehicles carrying oxidising substances, which make a fire burn far more fiercely.
Parking
Parking is permitted here.
Pedestrian Crossing
Marks a pedestrian crossing. Give way to anyone on it and never overtake on the approach.
Pedestrian may proceed if safe (green walking man)
The green walking figure tells pedestrians they may cross. As a driver you must not move off until the crossing is completely clear.
Pedestrians must wait (red standing man)
The red standing figure tells pedestrians to wait at the kerb. Expect people to start crossing as soon as it changes.
Petrol Station
Directs traffic to a petrol station.
Picnic area
Directs traffic to a picnic area.
Ramp
Marks a ramp, provided so that wheelchairs or vehicles can get between two levels.
Recommended speed limit
Advises the speed considered safe for the road ahead in good conditions. It is advice rather than a limit, but the maximum limit still applies.
RED AND AMBER also means 'Stop'
Red and amber shown together still mean stop. Do not move off until the light turns green.
RED means 'Stop'
A red light means stop. Wait behind the stop line until the lights change.
Restaurant
Directs traffic to a restaurant.

A board showing that the road ahead is closed, together with the point up to which you may still travel.
Road open to vehicles with snow tires
The road ahead is open only to vehicles fitted with snow tyres.

The road ahead is open only to vehicles with wheel chains fitted.

A board showing that the road is open, together with the point up to which it is passable.
Spontaneously combustible substance (5.2)
A hazard plate displayed by vehicles carrying a load that can catch fire on its own. Keep well back and never approach one after an incident.

Marks the start of a left lane that turns left, with the restrictions shown on the board above it.

Marks the start of a left lane to which the restrictions shown above apply.

Marks the entrance to a pedestrian subway.
Subway exit
Marks the exit from a pedestrian subway.
Taxi Parking
Marks a taxi rank. Other vehicles must not park in it.
Telephone
Points to a public telephone.
Tourist information
Directs traffic to a tourist information office.
Tunnel (service sign)
A service sign marking a tunnel. Switch on dipped headlights before you enter and keep your distance inside.
Vehicles going left must have 2 or more people
The lane turning left is reserved for vehicles carrying at least two people. Do not use it alone.
Vehicles going left & right must have 2 or more people
The lanes turning left and right are both reserved for vehicles carrying at least two people.
Vehicles in left lane must have 2 or more people
The left lane is reserved for vehicles carrying at least two people. Use another lane if you are driving alone.
Vehicles in middle lane must have 2 or more people
The middle lane is reserved for vehicles carrying at least two people.
Vehicles in middle lane must have 2 or more people (green board)
The green board version of the sign reserving the middle lane for vehicles carrying at least two people.
With-flow bus lane which other vehicles can use to turn left
A with-flow bus lane that other vehicles may enter only in order to turn left. Do not use it to travel along the road.
With-flow bus lane which other vehicles can use to turn left on roundabout
A with-flow bus lane on a roundabout approach, which other vehicles may enter only in order to turn left.
