Mandatory signs tell you what you must do on Turks and Caicos roads: the direction you must travel, a minimum speed, or a lane you must use. Ignoring them is a traffic offence.
Study tip: Mandatory signs are typically circular with a blue background and a white symbol. Remember: a blue circle means you must; a red circle means you must not.
Keep left
A blue disc with a white arrow pointing down and to the left. Pass this sign or obstruction on its left-hand side, for example at a traffic island or the start of a dual carriageway.
Left turn only
A blue disc with a white arrow pointing left. All traffic must turn left here; going ahead or turning right is not permitted.
Mini roundabout
A blue disc with three white arrows following each other around the edge. Treat the painted circle as a roundabout: keep left of it, give priority to traffic from the right and signal your exit.
One way
A white rectangular plate with a single black arrow. Traffic on this road flows only in the direction shown; entering against it is an offence and dangerous.
One way street
A white rectangular plate with the words ONE WAY STREET and an arrow showing the only permitted direction of travel. Do not drive against the arrow. Grand Turk has several one-way streets, including Duke Street, Queen Street and Front Street northbound.
Right turn only
A blue disc with a white arrow pointing right. All traffic must turn right here; going ahead or turning left is not permitted.
Stop, police
A white disc with a red surround, a black horizontal bar and the words STOP POLICE. A police checkpoint or stop is ahead: come to a complete stop and follow the officer's directions. Failing to conform with a police officer's signal is a ticket offence.
