Mandatory signs tell you what you must do on Jamaica roads: the direction you must travel, a minimum speed, or a lane you must use. Ignoring them is a traffic offence.
Study tip: Mandatory signs are typically circular with a blue background and a white symbol. Remember: a blue circle means you must; a red circle means you must not.
Cycle path
A route reserved for pedal cycles. Other vehicles must not use it, and cyclists directed onto it should use it rather than the main carriageway.
Footpath
A route reserved for pedestrians. Do not drive, ride or cycle on it.
Horse riding path
A route reserved for horse riders. Other traffic must not use it, and drivers nearby should pass horses slowly and with plenty of room.
Keep left
You must keep to the left of this sign. It stands on islands and obstructions; passing it on the wrong side puts you into oncoming traffic.
Keep right
You must keep to the right of this sign, usually to steer traffic around an island, obstruction or works. Follow the arrow and do not cut back early.
Pass on either side
You may pass this sign on either side; both routes lead to the same road beyond. Choose a side early and do not change at the last moment.
Proceed straight ahead
You must proceed straight ahead here. Turning left or right is not permitted at this junction.
Proceed straight or turn left ahead
At the junction ahead you must either continue straight or turn left; turning right is not permitted. Decide early and signal your turn in good time.

At the junction ahead you must either continue straight or turn right; turning left is not permitted. Choose your direction early and signal if turning.
Roundabout
A roundabout: you must travel around the island in the direction the arrows show, keeping it on your right. Give way to traffic already on the roundabout before entering.
Turn left
You must turn left here; no other movement is allowed. Signal early and watch for pedestrians crossing the road you turn into.
Turn left ahead
You must turn left at the junction ahead. Move into position in good time and signal before the junction.
Turn left or right ahead
At the junction ahead you must turn either left or right; going straight on is not permitted. Pick your direction early and signal clearly.
Turn right
You must turn right here; no other movement is allowed. Signal in good time and give way as required before completing the turn.
Turn right ahead
You must turn right at the junction ahead. Get into position early and signal before you reach the turn.
