Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the Jamaica driving theory test.
How many questions are on the Jamaican Road Code Test?
The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) Road Code Test has 20 multiple-choice questions, split into two sections: traffic signals and signs, and the rules of the road. You must answer at least 15 correctly to pass.
What is the pass mark for the Jamaican Road Code Test?
You need at least 15 of the 20 questions correct to pass the Road Code Test — that works out to 75%.
Is the Jamaican Road Code Test free?
Yes. The Road Code Test itself is free, and the Island Traffic Authority warns that you should not pay anyone to take it. Separate government fees apply later in the licensing process (for example the J$1,800 provisional licence and the J$3,240 driver's licence examination fee, paid at the Tax Office), but the Road Code Test carries no charge.
Who administers the Road Code Test in Jamaica?
The Road Code Test is administered by the Island Traffic Authority (ITA), which operates under the Ministry of Transport & Mining. Licensing fees are paid to Tax Administration Jamaica, but the ITA conducts the tests.
What topics are covered on the Jamaican Road Code Test?
The test has two sections: (1) traffic signals and road signs, and (2) the rules of the road. Practicing a broad mix across both areas — road signs and driving rules alike — gives the most realistic preparation for the real exam.
Is the Pro upgrade a subscription?
No! Pro access is a one-time payment. You get unlimited practice attempts, extended quizzes, detailed explanations, "frequently asked on exam" indicator (where applicable) and full access to all features forever.
Do I need a learner's (provisional) licence before I can take the driving test in Jamaica?
Yes. You must first obtain a Learner's (Provisional) Driver's Licence and hold it before the full driving test. Under the rules in force from 1 February 2023, provisional permits issued on or after that date must be held for six months. The full licence is then obtained in order: reading test, written (Road Code) test, yard test, and road test.
What is the minimum age to get a driver's licence in Jamaica?
The minimum age to drive a private motor vehicle is 17. For public passenger vehicles it is 21. Applicants must also be able to read and must have no road-traffic convictions in the previous 12 months.
Which laws does the Jamaican Road Code Test cover?
Jamaica's current road-traffic rules come from the Road Traffic Act 2018 and the Road Traffic Regulations 2022, which came into force on 1 February 2023. Much older online material predates these rules, so it is important to practice with up-to-date questions.
Is this Jamaica Road Code Test practice free?
Yes — you can start practicing Jamaica Road Code Test questions for free, with no account required. A free account unlocks daily practice attempts and progress tracking, and an optional one-time Jamaica Road Code Pass Pack adds a full timed exam simulator, detailed explanations, and unlimited attempts.
