Mandatory signs tell you what you must do on Malta roads: the direction you must travel, a minimum speed, or a lane you must use. Ignoring them is a traffic offence.

Ahead Only

You must carry straight on here. Turning left or right is prohibited at this point, whatever the road layout seems to invite.

End of Minimum Speed

The minimum speed requirement ends at this sign. You may again drive below the figure previously shown whenever conditions call for it.

Keep Left

You must pass this sign on the side the arrow shows, keeping it to your right. It stands on islands, obstructions and works; never cut across the other side of it.

Minimum Speed Limit

You must not drive slower than the figure shown while conditions allow it. Minimum limits keep traffic flowing where a crawling vehicle would create danger.

Pass Either Side

You may pass the island or obstruction ahead on either side; both routes rejoin the same road. Pick a side early and never switch at the last moment.

Pedestrians Only

This route is reserved for people on foot. Do not drive, ride or cycle onto it; if you must push a cycle or motorcycle through, do it at walking pace and give way to pedestrians.

Snow Chains Mandatory

Vehicles may not continue past this sign unless snow chains are fitted to at least two driven wheels. Fit them before the sign and drive slowly and smoothly while they are on.

Turn Left
